Getting my computer safe

Hello community. I've been looking for a Antivirus or Security program for quite a while now. I currently have this:Microsoft Security Essentials. I'm afraid it's not that good but I don't know that either. Should I keep this one or can I get better? Also I know that perhaps it would be better if I could spend some money on one right? But I can't really afford it at the moment so anything average/good and free would be great guys!

I'm not sure if this is needed but here's my pc specs:

Name: Toshiba Satellite A-200
CPU: Intel Pentium T3400 @ 2,16 GHz
RAM: 3GB (I'm assuming DDR2)
GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

Any help will be aprecciated, thanks in advance guys!

Avast free antivirus will do the trick for you. I sometimes double it up with Malwarebytes anti Malware but with Security Essentials already installed you shouldn't need Malwarebytes.

Having multiple antivirus programs running is not very good from what I've heard. It can cause a conflict between them, can it not?

Yes it can, that's why I said that OP doesn't need Malwarebytes because he already has security essentials

Security Essentials was created by MS as a last resort because so many people either didn't install or update their AV programs and were getting virus issues in Windows and blaming MS. You should definitely use something better.

Their detection engine are different. As long as not more then 1 are doing realtime protection, you could have multiple anti-virus/malware software.

You may go for Ablock Plus ad blocker. It is a security software that will eliminate pop up and keep you system secured.

Malwarebytes is specifically designed to be run with an antivirus. it does not have or cause conflicts between the two programs. Just an FYI
