I want to pull my ssd out of my old laptop and just plug and play into the new laptop. Both are dell but when I plug it in it says “media could not be found” why can’t it find the new ssd?
You can't just transplant OS drive from one pc to another and expect it to work without an issue.
There are several very specific conditions, that have to be met for this to work.

thats not accurate as i was able to clone a hard drive from a lenovo and run it on a dell computer.
sometime you get lucky and it work ok. best to do a fresh install.
Do you still have issue with the SSD?
well the question is can i install windows and keep the files on the ssd? i dont care about the apps but i do want to keep the files if i boot from win 10 install disc?
Are you talking about the OS drive or storage? If it's the first, you will need to swipe the SSD and reinstall everything from scratch. If you are just using it for storage, it should work plug-and-play.
