I would appreciate your advice on whether I should go with a glossy or anti-glare screen for my laptop.

I am thinking about getting a laptop for home. It would usually be docked with a desktop monitor, but would occasionally be used on its own. When used on its own, it would be used for writing and for non-professional photo editing. I would not be watching video.

I am puzzled that nearly all laptops for home use have glossy screens while all LCD monitors and TV sets have anti-glare coatings instead. I tend to think that I would prefer anti-glare, yet that would eliminate most laptops.

Which is best, glossy or anti-glare?

Glossy, glassview, and truelife screens are going to be hard to read/see in the sunlight. Matte or anti-glare will be easier to see in all lights but doesn't look as good to some people. The choice is personal. Go to a local Circuit City or Best Buy and look at the choices they have. With this type of thing you will probably have to choose on your own. I personally prefer the Glossy/ glassview screens.
