Google should just have their own carrier. Really like their voicemail feature.

You should give it a try if you haven't.

What about encryption? That is all I care about, I am tired of these companies and governments invading my privacy!

worked as well as Vonage. Sound was good andf the called party could not detect the call was made from a computer

works great! i use it on my droid2 phone all the time, for incoming and outgoing calls.

I tried phone calls to my cell phone today, the calls completed and the connnection and sound was very clear. When I dialed out with Google the phone rang immediately, it took longer for the phone being called to start ringing. There was a few seconds delay in what was being said and when it was heard, the same thing was true when the other person talked to me. I like it very much and plan to use it now :) Thanks Google, it is a wonderful free phone service. I will recommend this to everyone I know.

I try to call someone and they can't hear me. I can hear myself through my headset and Google can see, through GMail, that my mic is working, but the receiver of the call can't hear me.

I like the service and the technology Google has. I'm big supporter of google. But.. I can't help it to wonder about my privacy. Think about it. When you had an email account, you were somehow anonymous (at least beyond your ISP.) Now you've tied in a home\Office\Mobile number (and Credit Card) to your Gmail account which gives google valuable formation about you. This reminds me of how Microsoft has monopolized the PC technologies in the 90s. Google is now monopolizing the profiling information. All I'm saying is that we should be naive and full blindly for free services without a cost benefit analysis.

can somebody correct that it is 1,000,000 calls from all gmail users in total? i was like WT.... until i read the story! i know 1,000,000 is a lot for one person in a day but things happen... just when you see lady gaga on the top songs you know everything is possible.

Not available in Canada yet, but I assume it'd be much like any other VoIP. Half of them don't end up ringing on my phone. We'll see how much better Google Voice is once its up here.

I have been using Google Voice almost since its inception to make phone calls using my cellphone(Cellular now ATT where you can accumulate rollover minutes) to call the UK at a cost of 2.1 cents per minute. Two days ago I used the upgraded service from Google (from the UK! to the US)from my laptop and was surprised that I got a connection and was also struck by the quality of the sound.

Google is too damn awesome. Yea there are privacy concerns, but the reality is any company you deal with with these services you'll have to same feeling. And it's oddly unsettling how it's all free. You'd think we'd all just be tickled pink? We are a suspicious bunch. But the fact is, their services are awesome. Well done Google. Now play nice!

Not many people were using VoIP on a global scale, I only use it for cheap international calls.

Now that Google brings it on the mainstream users I fear that it will draw a lot of attention and it will bring taxation and regulations along. There are just a lot of money that get away from taxation and by using the infrastructure of the telecommunication companies for free

If Google added actual cell phone towers or if wifi were ubiquitous enough-i would sign with them. it would be legen...wait for it..
