Going to the next day

There is no arrows to go to the next day in Calendar mode, it's a pity, only
arrows to go to the next week.
Another example of a badly designed application.

Use your scroll pad to go left or right for the previous or next day.

Why not try the other buttons on your pda? It looks like that big button at
the bottom has arrows on it, I wonder what that will do if you try the
pressing it to the right?

This very bad design. The arrows should go to the next day, by all logic
thats what you expect them to do. Why would you ever need to go to the
next week using an arrow, when there is a drop down month-view calendar
for that.

I don't think it is 'very bad design'.

That is only your opinion, just because it's not what you want.

If you don't like it then change to something you are happy with. Look on
software sites for alternatives - try Pocket Informant for example.

Thanks. That helps.

I don't know about you, but I really like not having to use my stylus
for looking up things. So for me, being able to move forward a day by
using a hardware button simply is a great design. And about the arrows
on screen: don't assume your logic is the logic developers should
apply. I for one noticed the first time I pressed those arrows it
meant moving a week forward, and now these arrows mean that to me. So
I don't have a problem with that. If you personally can't get used to
that, or want more arrows to press, try third party alternatives like
Agenda Fusion (www.developerone.com) and Pocket Informant
(www.pocketinformant.com).

BTW: I think that is also pretty logical, since you can reach the next
day, just by tapping the day in question in the week list next to the
"go to today" icon. One of the things that I do like about Calendar,
and which made me return to the original PIM applications in stead of
Pocket Informant or Agenda Fusion, is their clean look. But that's
just my personal preference.

Methinks this User Application is faulty and should be returned to his
parents as clearly faulty.

Patrick - find a big label marked '(brain) dead on arrival "

Symptoms : CPU (brain) fails to function correctly, jumps to assumptions,
incapable of following instructions (RTFM) and opens mouth and inserts foot
for some reason.

This made my day ......... I know people don't RTFM very often but to slag
off a good application on a board like this is just asking for it !

You cannot if you are on Sunday.

No. That would mean two presses: one on the arrow right, and one on
monday. Or one press, on the D pad. :)

What Pocket PC are you using again? Is it running on Windows Mobile 2003?

On my iPAQ h2210, in both the day view and the week view, I can go from day
to day, forwards and backwards spanning weeks and months adn so on.. I can
go on and on if I hit the D-pad to the left or the right.

In the month view, It will scroll through each month if the D-Pad is moved
to the left or right... and will scroll weekly if you press the D-pad up or
down.

I think the setup is quite logical giving you the best two ways of scrolling
through the calendar ina given view.

Stop stating the obvious. Of course its my opinion!! Although it may not
seem so, Microsoft do actually attempt to make their software easy to
use. So by providing feedback, they may include an option in the next
version that enables the user to choose what these arrows do, as I am
clearly not the only user who thinks this is illogical. I am fully
aware of the alternatives, which is why I don't use Windows much in the
desktop environment. I have media player set to use the arrow-keys as
volume and back/next, so it I can't use them in any other app (out of
choice). This is actually the only thing apart from task switching that
I don't like about PocketPC, before you call me a Microsoft-basher i
chose new PocketPC over Palm after 5 years of using Palm because it's
better than Palm in many ways.

Nice attampt at humor, but if you've ever studied HCI (Human Computer
Interaction) you will know that you shouldn't need to RTFM in order to
perform simple tasks. Interfaces should be self explanitry. Personally I
read enough manuals and man files at work, as does our friend Patrick,
I'm sure :)

Thanks for the info. Not wanting to sound incapable of using such a
simple application, I should state that I didn't ask the original
question - however i do think the application is poorly designed in that
respect - brilliantly design in many others. As a software developer
myself I always try and put myself in the users position when it comes
to interfaces, rather than asking the user to think like a programmer!!
I guess "easy to use" is down to opinion :)
