good base laptop for gaming?

Looking at this pc as a base buy to start building off of for a gaming pc... my question is if it is a decent buy for the cost and if it will be able to game out the box...

While I plan on building it up I don't know when I will find the parts I want at a good price so I want to make sure this would work for gaming out the box to tide me over till I upgrade it

They are the same specs and I gather $1000 each.

GT740m's are pretty crap for gaming.

Try something with a GTX. the i7's are good. But you don't need 16GB ram - 8 is fine.

To echo i7Baby,

740m is very weak. The most important component for gaming is the gpu. I'd get an 860 or 870. (880 if you can afford it..)
