To All Knowledgeable and Helpful Techies:

I am not a baby boomer, but being Gen X doesn't make me a tech person either. I know almost nothing about computers other than to turn it on and have it work. My work didn't require this knowledge other than MS Office Suite and using the internet.

Any new/refurbished computer I get needs it to run the latest version, or close to it, of MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.). Also, get on the net easily and smoothly, have enough power/memory? to watch movies on Netflix, and watch my son play the occasional game of Minecraft. I am not making movies, but in the future maybe I would edit some short home videos of my kid playing soccer if it could handle that.

I think what I'm looking for is pretty basic and common for the home user that does a little bit of business from home. Any suggestions on finding this for under $400? Refurbished is okay if is has some kind of warranty and return policy.

Thanks for any help or suggestions you can give.

Any thoughts on the DELL advertised at the top of the page on tomshardware.com?

Like the looks, the size, and definitely the price, but will it do what I need?

If a 17.3" laptop does not sound too large for your taste, then consider the two HP laptops from Bestbuy for $400. You can find them in the link below to a similar topic and I also explain the basic differences.

When it comes to editing your own videos, the AMD version may be better because it has 4 cores rather than only two in the Intel version. Either laptop should be more than capable of playing Minecraft at 1920x1080 resolution, though the laptop is only 1600x900.
