Laptops do not make the best gaming platforms. For coding you need a fast CPU (for compiling code), a decent amount of ram (16gb is generally ok) and a high pixel display more than portions of a function. This high pixel display will challenge a laptop GPU to move stuff around to game on.
This is about the cheapest one that is going to work for you.

I'd say it is a compromise and not ideally suited to either task.

This has a high res screen for coding. A decent i5- processor. SSD. 8gb of ram. It is possible to code on a pure gaming laptop. They typically have much lower res screens and so this leaves room in the budget for other things. Won't be much fun to do a code review on, but it depends on how important the coding aspect is to you and what you are willing to give up to get that.

Under $1100 dollars is a OK price point for high performance tasks if you want high frame rates. The Acer Predator Helios 300 looks good to me. With a i7, 1060 6gb, 16Gb of RAM, and a 256GB ssd it will most likely take anything you throw at it including VR and any game at high settings. The storage is not the best if you hold large programs or games but you can upgrade it for around 100 dollars. (Linus Tech Tips did a review on it.) Although the specs are great and it does have a ips display, the battery life isn't the best. If this laptop doesn't suit your needs here is another one. The ASUS VivoBook M580VD-EB76 has 16gb of ram, gtx 1050 ti, i7 7700hq, 1 TB hard drive, a 256gb ssd and a much longer battery life. If those don't suit your needs then I just spent 2hrs researching. If you want to get the best option then just browse through the thousands of different laptops available on amazon, newegg, jet, Etc and find the one that has the configuration you need.

-Vance Anderson, I'm going to bed now.
