Good speakers for $300

Hi!
I'm currently looking to buy a pair of new speakers to hook up with my computer.
I haven't got the slightest idea on what to get, but I'm looking to spend about $300.

Going to use these for watching movies on my computer, music and probably some gaming too.

Any recommendations?

he means creative labs speakers but PLEASE dont buy into the hype they are decent but for the prices they retail for you can find better speakers

I don't really need anything specified on one with sounding good. Just a general good sound from everything from music to gaming. I'm looking for sturdy ones. Ones that'll keep with me for a while and have a clear sound.

Does an aftermarket soundcard increase the quality of these?

yes potentaily but it is not nessassary as to my understanding it has a usb dac built in

A little more than that, but much more flexible, a good (or at least decent) A/V receiver and a set of unpowered speakers - by waiting for sales, I managed to pick up a Pioneer VSX-822-K and a 5.1 set of pioneer speakers (SP-BS41-LR mains) for just over $500.

but hte porblem is these are pc speakers and i doubt he has space for a av reciver plus a 5.1 system on his desk, however yes that is a option

The NHTs are self-powered PC speakers. The full AV receiver options is indeed quite bulky physically.
