[citation][nom]TommySch[/nom]Stupid parents are stupid. They should start by teaching their kids not to run in the middle of the streets.I stopped doing that a long time ago, gas is expensive.[/citation]
And likewise, stupid people are stupid. How often did you listen to your parents when you were a kid? How often do you do commit a deviant act that you know is wrong, yet you do it anyways? Just because there is a norm, doesn't mean people will follow it, especially kids. Kids make mistakes and often don't think about the consequences of their actions. If a kid is playing a game and the ball goes on the road, chances are a lot of young children will chase after it without thinking about the potential hazards.

Wow... just wow. Everyone just reads the comments and jumps on the band wagon about how much this sucks...

1. It's temporary so there is no "desensitization".

2. It only looks like a real kid from 100' away, if you see a kid on the road 100' away and are traveling 35mph why the F*CK would you slam on your brakes you moron. You would have plenty of time to slow down even if it was a real kid.

3. As you get closer you can tell it's not real as it starts to stretch out. At 20' if a real kid jumps out then hell ya slam on your brakes, but at 20' this looks paint on the road.

4. To everyone on here that posted without FULLY READING the article... go back to school, learn how to read, and stop being a parrot.

It'd probably be more effective it was a pornographic image if they wanted to get people to slow down and pay attention. I can't tell you the number of tf2 spy and l4d2 death charge kills I've gotten off people who stopped to look at naughty sprays.

I propose that schools not be placed on an road considered main... they should be placed on dead end roads. So that traffic is minimized
through the area. This is largely the fault of city and county officials. If you don't have kids in school and don't work there you should never notice school traffic.

They should really plan better....

My 2 cents.

When I see a ball rolling in the middle of the road I generally start breaking since its pretty obvious someone will follow.

Parenting does change a whole lot of things. When I was a kid I never ran across a street without checking for cars first. Were I live we have a small ghetto (subsidized housing), thats the only place in the whole town where you can see children running in the middle of the street like headless chickens. I drive at like 20 MPH on that road because of it. Im not saying that every kid will listen, but most of them will. This is not a matter of not eating the cookie, its life and death.

OK, so what about the people that see it last second, slam on their brakes and cause accidents? Or, what about the people that get used to seeing it and just assume a real kid in the street is a "decal"? Idiots.

I can imagine myself thinking while driving; "What's that? ... Oh it's an optical illusion! *BUMP!* Nooo, It was a REAL kid!!!" So, I'm not sure if I like this idea.

This is not the speed bump itself, it will be placed some distance ahead of the illusion and will consist of two rubber lines.

Also, say goodbye to the quiet neighborhood and the sanity of kids constantly hearing screaming tires.

"Who authorized this?"
