GT 745M (Code 43) not working

I am running Windows 10, however i have had this issue twice (2) before on windows 8.1. I am using an ASUS Q550LF laptop.

The first time I had this issue, i was able to fix it by factory resetting my laptop (Asus Q550LF), however after upgrading to Windows 10 I am no longer able to do that. The second time I had this issue I was able to roll back to before i had the issue with a System Restore point, however after upgrading to Windows 10 my latest restore points are 2 weeks ago, and neither of those roll backs fixed anything.

In Device Manager there is a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it beside the GT 745M, I can not access the NVIDIA control panel. I can open Geforce Experience, but it cannot detect my graphics card there
.
The only way I can use my computer is with my integrated intel graphics, however i cannot play games at reasonable framerates with this.
I have tried reinstalling standard nvidia drivers, the drivers from the ASUS website for my laptop, restarting, and rolling back to a restore point, none of which worked. I have searched around online for hours and, though many people have had this issue, i haven't found an answer that works for me.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've heard this is a common problem on your laptop often fixed by updating the bios. i would contact Asus for guidance and see if they have another work around.

I've attempted to flash the bios several times with new bios version on the ASUS website, but i keep getting an "incorrect model name" error, and it will not let me flash it. Do you know how to fix this?

You can't flash the BIOS. I've also tried that. I actually had the exact same problem as you did.

(Uninstall drivers using DDU first)

1. Enter UEFI settings

Start button > Power > Hold "Shift" then click "Restart".
In the boot menu, select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > UEFI Settings (iirc)

2. Change DVMT allocation

Switch to the "Advanced" tab (right arrow). Select Graphics Options (down arrow)
Change DVMT allocation from "64MB" to "128MB"

3. Install drivers

Not sure if this is still relevant, but this is the order I installed the drivers:

Intel iGPU drivers > Nvidia drivers (ASUS website Win 8.1 version) > Nvidia 353.62 (latest version)

If you are unable to update your bios after following how to in the above links then you may have a current bios version as you are unable to downgrade your bios. A phone call to Asus will confirm if you bios version is correct for laptop and problem.

I was not able to use EasyFlash to flash the bios, however i was eventually able to get WinFlash to work. Many of the guides i read online said not to use WinFlash, but it has worked fine for me with no issues.

On the ASUS drivers page for the Q550LF there are 2 version 214 BIOS upgrades.

Will BRICK your machine, it is not for this model laptop, and is apparently there in error.

2. Run cmd.exe
3. Type "C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\WinFlash\WinFlash.exe" /nodate
4. Find your bios and install

i talked with asus to fix the same problem that you have with the same laptop i flashed bios with the 214 file from june 2014 not the newest one since i read somewhere it wasnt the correct one. my graphics card works perfectly now. should fix your problem.

im confused about this.. since im a scrub about technology, can you explain what you mean by DDU? and how do we download inteliGPU drivers?

Hi everyone. I just got off the phone with NVIDIA customer support and was told that Code 43 usually indicates a hardware issue with the card itself. He said if removing the graphics card from the computer and then putting it back in again doesn't work, then you need to get a new graphics card entirely.

did you download WinFlash from ASUS website?

if so just do a search on your computer "WinFlash.exe"
open cmd and drag that file to cmd add /nodate which should look similar to this....
C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\WinFlash\WinFlash.exe /nodate
then you are able to flash any version bios

That worked perfectly! Just when I was about to give up on it. Thank you!

Note: Instead of typing the file address, I dragged it into the cmd window and completed with the /nodate command.

Ok guys so I read this somewhere and worked for me hope it helps you.

You have to turn off your laptop. Press the power button for 1 minute, your computer will turn on briefly and off again. Just keep holding the button. Release the button and then turn it on normally, if it isn't fixed just disable the Nvidia GPU and enable it from device manager.
