CONTRA FTW !

I also enjoyed those weird casettes with 100 games... at least 10 where pretty good classics :)

Ahh...the NES, where you could spend $50 on a game that took less than two hours to beat (irks me to no end that some feel "entitled" to play modern games for free). But it was still the best thing to happen to video gaming at the time.

I still think they need to remake Base Wars on a modern console; that could be epic. Anyone else remember that game?

Holy crap. I turned 25 yesterday, and for all these years I've known that Nintendo came out in my birth year, but never did I realize the first system was sold on the 18th, my exact birthday. This is the best day ever! I remember being about 2 when my uncle brought home a shiny new NES and taught me the buttons. The rest is history.

[citation][nom]Avro Arrow[/nom] Tecmo BowlTo date, I still think Tecmo Bowl is the greatest video football game of all time![/citation]

I always loved the 120 yard endzone to endzone bomb for a touchdown :)

My Personal Top 10
1) Castlevania
2) Metroid
3) Zelda
4) Dragon Warrior
5) Final Fantasy
6) Ninja Gaiden
7) Contra
9) Shadowgate
10) Lifeforce
This includes some of the sequels, where applicable.

I remember Base Wars... Get some robots, win some games, upgrade them. Battle them when they get you out at a base (this was a baseball game with robots).

I remember I would take my strongest robot, get a single, and steal second, blow up a robot, steal third, blow up a robot, and steal home and blow up a robot. Pretty soon you win the game because the other team no longer had enough robots to play.

My favorite quote of NES:

"Thank you Mario! But the Princess is an castle"

from Super Mario Bros - a game that stands very well against test of time.

Happy Birthday NES.

[citation][nom]RazberyBandit[/nom]Actually, the universal Konami code was Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A B A Start. You forgot a B A.[/citation]

No, the Konami Code was U U D D L R L R B A {select} start

select was in there for 2player Contra and Gradius/Life Force.

I have one of these that has never been out of its box. The sport pack one with the gun and duck hunt. I also have a complete set with R.O.B. in good condition. Hit me up if you feel like making an investment :)

lassik, me and you both. I had the Sega Master System and i still have it and it works. Miracle Warriors and California Games were some of my favorite games.

hehe, gotta love the memories! my parents never let me get a gaming console, finally got one after moving out, but I remember playing the hell out of the NES over at one of my best friends house for hours, Contra, Zelda, Metroid, was a blast. Then the SNES came out and it was all about the Mario Kart. ;P

Others have mentioned many of my favorites (Contra, Final Fantasy, Zelda, etc), but as a Canadian I have to mention Blades of Steel. That game was awesome.

Never owned an NES myself (my parents wanted me to play outside), but spent countless hours playing on friends' systems. Finally got my own NES a few years back.

In super mario 3, the locations of the warp whistles are as follows:

World 1 Level 3 - Duck down and hold it there on the Last White Block (this block is the centre of a cluster containing 4 other blocks) you can now rum Behind the Black "end of level" screen, you appear in a Toad house where the whistle awaits.

World 1 First Castle - on the first screen, get a Leaf Tail and fly Over the top, instead of going through the first door. a chest appears with a whistle inside.

World 2 - A Hammer Bros Level-ette: Keep all Rock Hammers you get at Toad's, use a hammer in the Top corner of the map on the very far right, fight the hammer bros (these dudes spit fireballs) for a chest with a whistle.

Whistle-Accessible worlds are:
2,3,4
5,6,7
8,

if you want to repeat some worlds, for points or booty (world 6 has hammer throwing suits for example) then be sure to do it in that world. However, if you are on world 4, you jump to 5,6,7. if you are in 7, you jump to 8. and 8 is boring lol
