Hard drive into external memory how to view old files

I took the hard drive from my old laptop and put it into an external memory device. How can I view my old files?

Does the external hard drive show up when you plug it into your USB port?
It should, and if it doesn't there maybe something wrong with the hard drive.

Remember to always use the 'Safely Remove' option when disconnecting external drives.
