Hard drive problem

I just bought a new laptop and after I got done with the setup and was sure nothing was running, I held the power button to turn it off like an idiot. Now it's giving me the windows blue screen of death and nothing, not even a factory reset works. The people at Acer say it's the hard drive and that I should ship it in for repairs. I want to know what exactly the problem is, like is it corrupted or fried, and if I could fix it myself via cmd or opening the computer up before I ship it.

Solution
As it's new I would take Acer's advice & ship it back to them - - - after all that's what the warranty is for, so make use of it while you can. May be annoying and inconvenient but it's the right course of action.
