Solution
I have heard the 598s have slightly better sound stage and more rich highs while the 558s have better low end, I personally own the 558s and love them. They put a piece of foam in the inside of the ear cup on the 558s many people claim if you remove this piece of foam (they call it the foam mod you can google it) it opens up the sound stage more and makes them sound near identical to the 598s, however I have never tried the 598s so I cant say for sure.

I mostly play games with vocals and mids, so I think I'll go with the 598 or maybe mod the 558. Not sure.

Either would be fine they are certainly more alike then they are different from what I have heard. I would not pay a lot more for 598s than 558s however if the price gap is not too big I might go for the 598s. Personally in the 150 dollar range I have been eyeing the fostex T20rp's I have heard good things, I linked them below.

well the hd 598 was on sale on prime day for 100$, so I bought it!
