HDMI or Optical Audio output from TV directly to speakers

I have a JVC HD TV that has Optical Audio output as well as HDMI. I Have surround-sound system not powered (was connected to a DVD player). The wires are all naked, i.e. no connectors. How can I accomplish SS output.

you will need to buy an AV receiver to connect the speakers into and the plug your bluray players and tellys optical output etc into the AV receiver then the TV output of the receiver into the TV

Where would I find a really low-cost AV receiver i.e. no bells and whistles to just pass thru the signal from TV (which has my DVD plugged into it) to the speakers. Any ideas?

HDMI is much better than optical. Optical has many limitations.
