Hey I'm looking for a new pair of headphones or a headset for gaming. The best headset I could find was the sennheiser game ones and they are about £170, are there any headphones that could match or come close to these for gaming for cheaper? I'm also wanting to buy a mod mic 4 so I don't want to spend over £180 with the Headphones and modmic combined. I'm new to this audiophile stuff so I don't really want to have to buy an amp. Also open back is preferred thanks.

Heyo bailey-951

Awesome to see you want to get into headphones :)
For your budget, something like the Beyerdynamic DT770/DT990 would do you nicely. Great for gaming and has amazing sound compared to pretty much any gaming headset. Of course there's a few gaming headsets based on "real" audiophile grade headphones, which makes them not total nonsense.
You'd have to stick to headphones at around 55-60 ohm impedance MAX, if you don't want to run them through an AMP. Although, if you'd like a cheap and great AMP/DAC combo, the Fiio e10k is a great option.

Cheers

Hey thanks for the answer. Would the akg k702 for gaming be any good without an amp? They're £130

If you can get them for that price, then sure. Since they're at 62 ohm, you should be able to run them without loss in quality.

It's these or I might spend abit more and get the fidelio x2 with Vmoda boom pro mic. What do you think will be the better option for mainly fps gaming ? Thx

Thanks my dude these look really good. Are they similar to the game ones since they're from sennheiser? Also is there any difference between the 598, 598 cs 598 se and the 598 sr? Thx

598,598se,598sr all the same phones physically.
598se comes with the extra 1.2m 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack aswell as the 3m 1/4 inch jack cable(it also comes in an extra/couple of colours).
Sr comes with both cables & an inline remote (which is optional)
Cs is the closed back version (which you don't want if you expect any kind of positional audio using winsonic or Dolby atmos decoding option in win 10)

Sr from what I've searched is actually the cheapest option available so makes sense evennif b you dont want the inline remote.

I would suggest if you can at all to go to an hi-fi store & try some sennheisers on.
The 518,558,598,599 all have the same fit headband wise.

So its easy to know if they'll suit your head shape - a good store will have at least one of those models available to try on.
