A couple of days ago when I was watching YouTube videos on my phone, the sound of my headset (Tritton kunai), that I have had for several years now, suddenly went very low, even when the volume was turned all the way up. I tried plugging in a different pair of headphones to see if maybe my phone/headphone jack was broken, but the other headphones worked just fine. Then I tried plugging the headset into my laptop, and the sound was still very low (almost quiet even), but when I tried turning the headphone plug in the headphone jack, I noticed that the sound suddenly went normal again, but for a very short time. Also, my notification sounds sound just as clear as before, and even weirder, I can also hear the background music and sound effects in videos very clear, yet the commentary and the voices in the same videos are still very low. Does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it?

Hey there, you´re giving the perfect description of a broken cable. Either is the base cable itself that is slowlly breaking either something inside. You could try to fix yourself by soldering the connection points again. Or buy a new one :/

I agree, it sounds like a failing wire. Repairing isn't that easy.. the damn wires are so thin..so I'd make that a last resort move.
Looking up the headset, it looks like you can disconnect the headset from the volume control/extension. If so, how does the headset work without it?
You'll find often that the break occurs close to the ends where the useless strain-reliefs are (unless your one of my kids, and drive computer chairs over the middle of their father's wired headset cable). Sometimes putting a bend in the wire and looping it back 180 degrees helps (or worsens) the fault. If you can get it to stay good, tape or tyewrap it like that.
