Hello everyone, I'm heading to college soon and I've been given a $1,000 US budget to get laptop. I expect to carry it around a lot but I won't complain on the weight, however the max I'd like the screen to be is around 15" or so. I don't game much, mostly watch streams and netflix, but I sometimes play Garry's Mod with friends and I want to get into TERA. I'm hoping for decent battery life but from what I've read so far, that's rare in gaming laptops.
Not sure if it plays a part but I intend to major in Computer Engineering. I like to use computers but I have absolutely no knowledge relating to them. Much appreciated!
1. What is your budget?
Under $1000 would be great.
2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
I will be carrying it too and fro across a sizable campus. I'd prefer for it to not be the size of my desktop.
3. What screen resolution do you want?
I'm not picky or even knowledgeable in this area.
4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Both I guess? I don't have a desktop and I'm going to be living on campus.
5. How much battery life do you need?
Enough, I was thinking 4-5 hours? I'm not sure.
6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
Garry's Mod occasionally. And I want to start playing TERA. I don't need max settings, just good enough to run without problem.
7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
Netflix, YouTube, Photoshop sometimes but not often, just for fun.
8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
The larger the better I guess, but at least 500GB
9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.
Just nothing sketchy haha.
10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
Duration of college, 4-5 years.
11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
None, my friend said external disc drives are a thing.
12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
N/A
13. What country do you live in?
The United States of America
EDIT: I inputted the questions I've seen on other threads
