So my laptops hard drive got corrupted and it turns out that it's usb drives wont work in boot mode. So I can't boot Ubuntu onto it. I got Ubuntu on the hard drive with a desktop and I'm wondering if it can still work in my laptop. I want to be able to use my laptop again without it costing an arm and a leg

If you got it to accept the re-installation of the OS, and it is working/accessible, then you should be able to use the laptop.

Is there something else going on that you didn't mention?

If you can not boot into usb mode, there is a software that allows it. Lookup how to boot into usb on windows xp and it should give you a download where you can run this and then run a usb

So I had a laptop that was pretty good and I used mostly for gaming. It was originally bundled with Windows 8 but I upgraded to 10 not long after 10 came out. One day I go to turn it on and it says insert a boot disk and then I panic. I thought it was unbootable but turns out a partition got corrupted. I had a Windows xp boot disc to boot off of and used it to make sure nothing else was wrong. I need to get Windows 10 on it again and I'm wondering if this will work.

If you've got the key get the ISO with the mediacreation tool

You do not need to buy anything at all, Windows 10 is already registered to that computer. Just download Windows 10 from Microsoft and install, it will activate itself.

What you can do is search on Newegg for a 2.5" hard drive. 1tb should be 50 or so maybe even less
