Help me choose a laptop (around $1000 AUD)

I am looking to buy a new laptop within the next few months but I don't really know where to start looking.
I mostly want to use the system for basic office functions as well as light gaming/photo editing and watching movies in at leat 720p. Not looking to spend a whole lot of money somewhere around $1000 AUD dolars would be a good benchmark.

Hoping that someone can give me some idea of what to look for in a new laptop that won't be immediately superseded

I have a 2013 Macbook Air and it's pretty good. It's fast, light, and ultra thin. I can also play Crysis 3 on it. And the best part is, the battery life is so long. If not for the small storage, it will be my favorite laptop.
