Solved! Help my laptop screen is black

Hello,
My sons used my daughters laptop when my daughter turned it on for school work the screen is black and a cursor is blinking. I cannot get it to reboot. what do i do?

this may not work but its worth a try. take out the battery and make sure its not plugged in. then press and hold the power button for 30seconds. put the battery back in and plug the ac adaptor in and try turning it on
