I'm trying to decide whether to get a laptop that has the i7-6700hq and gtx 1060 6gb or one that has i7-7700hq and a gtx 1060 3gb, which one would be better for gaming? Or is the difference trivial??
Same video with the only difference being a Sky Lake or a Kaby Lake processor. There are no IPC differences between those two so the only real difference is the Kaby Lake will give you an extra few hundred MHz on the CPU clocks. So trivial difference.
The one thing that could push it towards a Sky Lake 6700 one would be if the retailer is discounting it to try and get rid of it thus it is much cheaper than the Kaby Lake 7700 based laptop.
So there really isn't much of a difference between a 1060 3gb and 1060 6gb? Between the two on the retailers website is only 50$
Whoops missed the VRAM difference. Not sure what kind of display the laptop is running but with Sky Lake and Kaby Lake being so close on performance I'd agree with Mikke. Get the 6700/1060 6 gig.
The display is a 17.3in ips fhd anti glare on both, the Kaby lake version offers a 120hz screen. I appreciate both of your help! It's been a while since having a computer, and it's been quite the learning curve coming back after 8+ years
