I need some help I have a HP dv4-2160us that is overheating. It is only overheating when online, browsing the internet or watching netflix. I can play games ov watch a movie just fine. I have been using IE9.

Any ideas on why my computer would be doing this?

Any help would be great

Welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums,
First for clarification, what surface is the laptop used on? Should be a smooth hard flat surface or cooling pad.
It could be that your CPU fan is failing and/or your heatsink needs cleaning. When running, can you feel hot air being blown out of the side vent from about 2-3" away? Could also be a problem with your wireless card (although traditionally they are not great heat generators).
I'm linking an HP article on heat and will also suggest you look at some youtube videos to see what is involved in disassembly to physically clean the heatsink (blowing air through the vents although good to clear light dust, will not clear dust bunnies as a rule - just moves 'em around).

The use of a cooling pad may be a good idea also - something like this perhaps

Allows you to place fans directly under your vents - nice feature.
