Question Help with HP Laptop Battery and Boot Issues After Replacement

I'm helping a friend troubleshoot their older HP laptop (model HP 17-by1061st) that recently started acting up. The issue began when the laptop wouldn't run unless plugged into the charger, so we decided to replace the battery with a new one. However, after the battery replacement, the laptop won't boot past a few error screens. Here’s the sequence of what happens when I try to start it:
  1. First, I get a BIOS error 502 (BIOS checksum invalid).
  2. Then it shows error 601 (Battery capacity reduced).
  3. After that, it displays a "Critical Resource Unavailable" message and restarts.
It keeps looping back to the error 601. I checked the charger, and it's outputting 19.5 volts, which seems to be within spec. I also tried reinstalling the new battery, but the issue persists. There’s a suggestion online to hold the power button down while only using the battery, but that doesn’t seem to work for me either. I’m trying to figure out what the underlying problem could be. Is this a charging circuit issue, a problem with the battery itself, or could it be an OS or driver issue? The battery has a multi-pin connector, and I’m unsure if I need to measure specific pins to check if the charging voltage is correct or if the battery is properly charged.

Here are my questions:
  1. What pins should I check on the battery or charger to verify if the voltage is up to spec?
  2. Is there any other method or troubleshooting step I should take to resolve this issue?
I appreciate any advice or suggestions from those who’ve encountered similar issues. Thanks in advance!

Hey, just to add to this, I also read somewhere that the BIOS may need to be reset after replacing the battery. Have you tried clearing the CMOS or performing a hard reset on the laptop? Sometimes this can help resolve any BIOS-related issues, especially after hardware replacements. You can usually do this by removing the battery and holding down the power button for about 30 seconds to drain any residual power. After that, try booting it again and see if it clears up any of the errors.

Let me know if this helps or if the issue persists!
