Hi, I have a compaq notebook tha will on occasion turn on but most of the time it has a blinking white lite under the caps key

The fan is running and since it displays occasionally, I assume it works.I tried using another power cord and it will not charge the battery, nor will the original cord.

It may well be that the battery needs replacing.
