HL-P4663 DLP video delay - interlaced vs progressive

Trying to optimize my home theatre, hoping someone can share their
experience....

1) I have heard that the Samsung DLP screens tend to suffer more sync
issues with interlace signals (480i) - can anyone confirm that changing
to a progressive feed (480p) eliminates the delay (or at least below
perception)? On this note, how about 720p or 1080i?

2) Internal speaker mute - it appears that when the internal speaker is
on, the audio output is *not* delayed, but as soon as the internal
speaker is turned off, the delay circuit kicks in for the audio output.
(Turn the volume all the way down with home theatre on, then turn off
the internal speaker and you will hear a noticeable stutter). Just
looking for confirmation this is indeed what is happening here...

Just trying to decide whether I can get away with simply upgrading my
DVD player or if I will need to shell out for a whole new receiver
($$$) with a delay function.

PS - wouldn't the problem be solved if Samsung simply put an
optical-in/optical-out that passes through the sync-delay circuit??
Although I guess that would require a DTS decoder (to fully support
home theatre), and would add co$t. <sigh>

Thanks!

yes I get some delay with 480i....regular tv, but don't seem to in 720p or
1080i with the samsung hd dvd player.

Thanks for the feedback.

Interestingly, when I connected my cheap secondary DVD player
(Magnasonic DVD808... $60CND) which has progressive scan, I still had a
similar delay with my HTS using analog input. I was a bit discouraged
as that was not the result I was expecting, but then when I turned the
internal speakers back on - and even the TV itself was *not* synching
it up!. I switched the signal back to interlaced, and *still* out of
line. Hmmm...

Cheap DVD player...? :p Guess I can't expect much for $60, although it
does make a decent karaoke machine. ;-)

Anyway, will just pick up a new receiver w/delay function at some
point.

Speaking of which, I see the Yamaha HTR-5740 seems like a decent
bargain for a receiver with delay function, as they can be had on eBay
for ~ $250. Can anyone recommend this or other (of the lesser
expensive) receivers that offer this feature?

Thanks!
