I received an e-mail from Hoodman Customer Service (Torrance, CA)today
since I had put out an inquiry to Ontario, Canada suppliers listed on
the Hoodman site for this Flipup Cap and it wasn't a product available.
The Ontario vendor must have sent my inquiry on to Hoodman.

We will have a new FlipUp cap for the Canon Rebel XT in approximately
one month and we should have information on the website in the very near
future as well. The price for the FlipUp will be $34.99 and will be
found on the following page:
http://www.hoodmanusa.com/flip_up.asp#canon
Prices and shipping charges for Canada are the same as for US customers.
The FlipUp shipping charge would be $8.55. Henry's in Toronto has the
FlipUps on backorder and we will be shipping to them as soon a we
receive stock.
The current model FlipUp, the H-REBEL, will not fit on the Rebel XT.
The eyepiece replacement portion of the FlipUp is identical to the
eyepiece on the Canon Rebel XT. FlipUp caps are not compatible with
extended viewfinder eyepieces.
We are also going to be carrying a PowerGrip for the Canon Rebel XT that
will be available sometime after the end of September. The price for
this vertical PowerGrip will be $119.99. Please check our website in
the future for updates on this product.

There was mention of this product in a recent thread . When I went to
their site it wasn't clear if the FlipUp cap would suit the RebelXt so
this customer service person has confirmed that RebelXt requires its own
LCD cap. I was hoping it would provide a shading effect for viewing the
menu etc. in bright sunlight.

Hi Rose!

I just received the H rebel which I had ordered last week instead of the XT
Rebel ('da XT ProtectorT) as advertised.
Although it seems to fit, I sent an enquiry.
I'm waiting for the answer.
I've already paid for the contraption + $8 something for delivery and $10.35
CAD for customs.
Let's hope I don't have to pay for their mistakes.

Marcel have you used it in bright sunlight and does it 'shade' the
playback data or the menu contents so that its not so faded?
I imagine the customs duty that you paid was the GST and the PST. I'm 2
hours from Toronto so it would be more than 8.00 for me to drive there
and get the thing.
Perhaps they could arrange for you to exchange the model at a local
dealer when the correct one is in stock.

FWIW, if I may add a comment to this thread, I bought the Hoodman
Fliphood for my 20D last Wednesday from Kerrisdale Cameras's website.
Cost: $49.99 Cdn. Requested 1 to 2 weeks delivery, but received it
yesterday afternoon (Monday). Total waiting time = 3 working days!!!
Shipping from their Vancouver BC store to my home here in Victoria BC
was $7. Also avoided the customs duties since both cities are here in
Canada. Seems like they ran out of RebelXT's model as of today though.

I'm very impressed by the quality of my Hoodman H-20D in bright
sunlight, the plexiglass protecting the LCD allows a complete unhindered
view of all menus and the design, material and color integrates
flawlessly with my 20D.

I would also like to recommend the Kerrisdale Cameras website, very fast
and great customer service. It feels good to have a satisfying online
shopping experience without any hassles.

Regards,

PN

You are right. There was no customs duty. GST was $2.50, PST was $2.85 and
Handling fees were $5.00, in all, $ 10.35.
I haven't used it, because I realised it was the wrong one. For some reason,
I got mixed up between the Rebel Protector (http://www.daproducts.com/) and
Hoodman. I had ordered the former (DaRebel Protector) when someone on this
Newsgroup mentioned the Hoodman. I went to the website and thought I was
ordering the one for my XT without realising I was ordering the wrong model,
the "H Rebel". I tried to install it and it looks like it fits, but I
haven't tried it in case I can send it back.

By the way, Charlene Gordon wrote back to me after I told her I had
mistakingly ordered the wrong model (H-Rebel instead of the XT). She was
very understanding and told me to send it back (slow post). She would send
me the appropriate model when they get it, in about 3 weeks. She was very
accomodating. It's great to do business with such companies and such kind
persons.
Cheers,
Marcel

Now, isn't that grand! Puts a good feeling into the conscious doesn't
it? I'm glad I put the info here. I was surprised to get the e-mail from
Hoodman because I figured it was a dead end after the Ontario store said
they didn't carry the product (meanwhile they are on the internet as a
Hoodman outlet)
