I have an ancient Toshiba SR-F335 turntable with a red & white RCA output. I plugged that into a PYLE Mini Phono Preamp. From there I ran a red & white RCA cable that combines into a small jack that fits the Aux. on my Toshiba TY-SBX1020 Soundbar. It doesn't work. I have tried an RCA to coax cable too without success. I'm just winging this setup as I know nothing about audio electronics. Am I missing something, do I need an analog to digital converter also? I'd be grateful if someone could put an 81 year old grandma on the right path to listen to her albums from the 60's.

Have you tried connecting the turntable directly without the pre-amp?

Also, when connected as you did, did you cycle through the ports, selecting aux?

To be honest I don't remember if I tried directly. I've tried so many different combinations, I don't think I have a cable that would connect the turntable straight to the soundbar, I understood from my research that I needed a preamp because the turntable doesn't have an internal one. On the soundbar I have an Aux., Optical and Coax. port available, the HDMI is in use for the TV. I did try the coaxial port with a different cable. Nothing so far has worked.

From what I recall looking at your soundbar manual, you need to cycle the soundbar to the desired port to get it to produce sound.

You might try a couple RCA couplers (female - female) to connect the turntable directly to the soundbar with the cable you already have to see if that changes anything.

Something like this (just an example).

What exactly do you mean by "cycle" the soundbar? For the TV, I simply plugged the HDMI cable in and selected the required settings on the TV and I had sound through the soundbar.
Out of the mountain of cable I have, not one is female to female. Next time I'm in town (I'm in a rural area) I'll pick up the couplers you suggest . Most of the configurations I've tried I've purchased then returned the cables. However, since I've been told I need a preamp I'm not at all hopeful that direct connection will work but I'll give it a try.
