HDMI - by what procedure do you believe that an HDMI port will accept power IN?
USB - Only if that particular device can accept power in through the USB port. Can yours? Doubtful.

Since you don't want to buy a new one, take your laptop to best buy or walmart and tell them that you need to be sure that their replacement works so you need to test it in the store. Then once it is charged tell them that you changed your mind and leave. Repeat each time that you need a recharge.
