how do i connect my laptop to my roku

it keeps tellme on my laptop to type in the code that was sent to my tv but nothing is popping up on my tv so what do i need to do to my tv for my laptop to send the code?

I am guessing you are talking about step 5 here https/support.roku.com/article/225735828-how-to-set-up-your-roku-express? Is that where you are at? Nothing is coming up? If not, reset the Roku and start the setup fresh see if it comes up with a code.
