how do i get just the basic channels without cable or anything

Not sure how to get basic channels like abc..nbc...cw.. pbs..ect.... without cable or anything? ???

You'll need a TV antenna and a TV (or set-top box) that supports ATSC.

Go to TV fool.com. They will give you a map of broadcast antennas in your area, and info on getting best reception possible. If you have a lot of stations close by it can be simple. If they're far away and in different directions it gets more complicated.
