how do I get my home theater system to work with my android tv box?

How do I connect my Onkyo model HT-R580 surround sound to my Leelbox MXQ Amlogic S805 Quad Core 4.4 Android TV Box? I have tried using an hdmi cable from the tv to the home theater system like i used with a regular cable box and it does not work. Any help would be appreciated.

Your Onkyo should have plenty of HDMI inputs, just plug that TV Box in one of these, not into the TV.
