How do I use an AC adapter without my laptop's internal battery?

I have an ASUS X551M laptop and the internal battery is giving me problems. I removed it thinking I can just use AC power, but I couldn't...

Right now I have to use both the internal battery and the AC adapter to make my laptop turn on.

Is there a special setting that I can use that will allow me to use just my AC adapter?

Are you sure it is the battery that is the problem? Or the only problem? It is possible that the charger cord is having issues as well.

While most laptops will run with the power cord alone, some don't. The manufacturer just set it up that way.
