How do you adjust the record meters on my nakamichi CR-4 when the record meters stay on before recording tapes?

Hers the thing:
I have a rare nakamichi CR-4 tape deck that works nicely but the record meters are on at the -30 on both L/R channels when they should be off when you want to record your tapes.
Is there an adjustment for this inside of the unit to eliminate this?
Let me know soon and schematics on this unit will help me find it too.

If the meters are at -30 when the deck is turned off they do have a screw on the front on the meter. Not easy to get to to most cases since the front panel covers that part of the meter.
