How does in app ads work

Hey everyone iwas just wondering ow in app ads exactly work? I was watching my gf plying on her phone and 2 ds popped up.One of tem was a room/Flat searching app(Were currently looking for a new flat),and the other one was adating app.Does this mean she has a dating app on her phone? Its an android phone,she also uses fingerprint for protection (Its her work phone) Any help would be appreciated .

Getting a popup for a kind of app doesn't mean you have that app on the phone. What it means is that one of the apps on the phone has an agreement with the company who makes the dating app, or they may even make it themselves. And they are advertising it. Just like spam, popups and commercials on TV.

If you want to know if she has something on her phone why not just ask her.
