How does the 8 GB SSD on the Lenovo function?

Can the SSD be instructed to work with specific programs or is it made to function with the 8.1 OS?

My Lenovo seems to be minimally faster on boot up but I don't see any increase speed in handling photo editing programs.

Whatever is most frequently read off the HDD. That's likely to be Windows, and some bits of your program (so it will open faster, probably), but not the data that you're working with.

It can't be customised.
