Ever since On Star became available I have been fearful of a potential cyber terrorist attack targeting vehicles. I have been saying for years that I think its a dangerous move to connect your car to the internet. My next car will be a 77 Trans Am...

"My next car will be a 77 Trans Am." Good luck with that. Finding one in excellent restored condition will set you back about what a new BMW 428i would cost you. The values of 60s and 70s muscle cars have gone off scale over the past ten years.

In any event, just keep your phone WiFi off unless you are using it and don't surf on questionable sites with with it (read: p0rn sites which are loaded with malicious activity). And if you buy a new car, don't buy one with built in navigation. Problem solved.

The latest web analysis states that porn sites are some of the least infected sites.
The worst sites are religious based sites hosting the most malware.

As far as tracking I disable everything I possibly can, from my phone to my TV.and especially my computer.

I don't own anything in the 2000's. Older vehicles are easier to fix, simpler to use, cost under $2000 vs $30K~ for new and don't have wireless. All pros to me. Also the down payment some people have to pay (with bad credit) to buy a new car could buy a used one in cash.

If they would use two separate computer chips in the car, with the engine management, etc. on one and the entertainment and wi-fi on another, with no connections between them, it would be 100% unhackable via wi-fi. I think that's what they should start doing.

The most advanced thing I want in my car is Bluetooth for music from my phone. Where at worst if it gets hacked the worst thing that can happen is me listening to some bad music.

I'll stick with my 95 Honda Civic that gets 28 MPG around town and is unhackable. With so called "Progress" comes a new set of headaches.
