How much for a 5 yo ASUS N61JQ laptop?

Hello!

Does anyone have an idea of how much I could sell my 5 year-old laptop for (specs below)?
I can't find a single offer for it online, but one appraisal site suggested $331 to $344.
I originally paid $1,475 for it in 2010.

The only problem with it is that the optical driver is dodgy: some DVDs/Blu-Rays work, some don't, and I don't know why.

Otherwise the rest of the computer is in perfect working condition.

Not sure what you mean by 'appraisal site'. Are they offering to buy it from you? If so, take the money.
Private sale, you'd be looking more around 50-60% of the new cost, so around the $250 region.

Ultimately, the second-hand pricing is as simple as what somebody is prepared to pay for it. If it was me, I'd start listing around the $500 mark and gauge responses.

According to their website my last laptop is worth $1283-$1336 right now. I sold it a year ago this August and could only get $800. Maybe the market was depressed.

A 5 year old laptop even with an i7 is about $300. I have sold many Lenovo W series with i7 models with Quadro video cards and 8-12 gig of RAM about that age that were over $1,000 when new and they went in the mid to high $200 range, so about $250-280. The BluRay player will add some value, but the fact that it's flaky and the lower 4 gig of RAM will take some value away. I would not expect more than $300 for this. If you can get $400 that is a very good price to get but I doubt it will sell for that unless you double the RAM and replace the drive. Even then it would be very lucky to sell at over $300.
