How to connect asus essence stx to and external DAC

I have a problem regarding connecting my new Asus Essence STX soundcard to my external Audio Note DAC. All I get is noice in my loudspeakers. I use the SPDIF connection via a single cable to my DAC, but little it work. I know that the Asus STX soundcard can work with a external DAC, but how..

Does any of you guys have any experience regarding this abow mention problem of mine
