How to connect to free wi-fi with my mobile phone

Hello,
I am able to connect my phone to my home wi-fi, and also at McDonalds, but so far have not been successful at other free wi-fi locations. I seem to be able to connect to the service, but then unable to connect to the internet. My phone is a Nokia C3 and the browser is Opera
Mini. Any Ideas ?
