How to convert to MKV

My HDcam (Kodak playsport) makes .MOV files.Can I convert them to any compressed file format like mkv? Which software to use?

I use a program called Format Factory that is free, works with about every format out there and even though it's free, has no limitations.

you can't convert anything to mkv because mkv is just a container, not its own format/codec.
depending on the codecs used in your mov files, you could probably use something like mkvtoolnix to make a mkv file from your existing mov files...

Format factory will do a direct conversion to MKV, container and all.

Tryed but no significant compression observed.
