How to copy paste a non square picture in another one

Hi,
I d like to add this logo to my picture. It s a square with an image inside and a white background.
I don't want the white background in the picture where I ll paste it. Using simple copy paste only lets me copy a rectangle. I m not sure what s the terminology but I m pretty sure there s a way to automatically extract the non white part of the picture and paste it in another one.
Which free software allows me to do that? How should I proceed?

I m a total noob in picture editing. I ve heard of photoshop and apps like that but never used any of them. I only know windows paint...

Windows Paint has free-form selection (i.e. at least it does in Windows 10).

Is there a way to automatically select the non white part?
I don t think it s possible to manually draw around that without missing a pixel.

Try the freeware Paint.NET. It has a Magic Wand selection tool.
