How To Disable Keyboard Of Windows 8 Laptop

When gaming on a laptop, there can be instances where a toddler had rushed in and pressed a couple of keys on your onboard laptop keyboard and sent your gaming session to the bin. Times like this where you wished the onboard laptop keyboard wasn’t active. Another instance is where you’re using an external keyboard and would like that the onboard keyboard is shut off. This tutorial will show you how to disable the onboard keyboard on your Windows 8 laptop.

1. Power up and log-in to your Windows 8 laptop.

2. Go to this site and download DevManView. If you’re on a 32-bit version of Windows 8, download DevManView, if you’re on a 64-bit version of Windows 8, download DevManView for x64 systems.

3. Extract the contents of the zip file to a suitable location on your hard drive.

4. Locate the app.

5. Run the app in an elevated command.. That is, right click installer>Run as Administrator.

6. In the apps window, you should see a table of contents. The columns of interest to us, for the sake of this tutorial, are:
Device Name, Manufacturer and Device Type Code.


7. Locate all entries that have the Device Type Code of Keyboard. Additionally you can look for PS/2 keyboard and/or HID Keyboard Device or any listing of the same ilk in the Device Name column. You can also look for this entry: PC/AT Enhanced PS/2 Keyboard (101/102-Key).

8. Select the device you’ve ruled out to be your laptop’s onboard keyboard (and not your external keyboard).

9. Right click on the highlighted entry.

10. Click on Disable Selected Devices.

11. Restart your laptop.

12. Your laptop’s onboard keyboard should now be inoperable.

If you want to enable the laptop’s onboard keyboard for some reason, you can do so by going back into DevManView and finding the entry for your keyboard as suggested prior.

13. Right click on it and the option to enable is just below the option to disable it. That is, Enable Selected Device.

14. Reboot your laptop and your onboard keyboard should regain functionality.
