Looking to find where your closest pokestop or gym is, but not sure where to find them exactly?
Step 1)Look around you in Pokemon Go.
Chances are, unless you are in a rural area, you'll be able to see one near you within the game itself. Open it up and look around your avatar on the map in game and you might be able to spot any of them that are near you. Pokestops are little blue squares on poles, while gyms will stand out from quite a ways away.
Step 2)Check the Ingress maps.
Pokemon Go uses the same locations for pokestops and gyms as it's previous game Ingress did. At this time there isn't any official map available to locate pokestops (although there are a few crowd sourced ones that depend entirely on people submitting information to the map correctly), so you can use the Ingress one. To do this, you'll need to actually set up an Ingress account by downloading the Ingress app and going through the account setup process. Once that is done you can log in to the account on a web client by going here. https/www.ingress.com/intel Keep in mind, not all of the Ingress portals were adopted to Pokemon Go though, so this system isn't 100% reliable, but can give you a good idea of where to look around.
Step 3)Explore!
Half the fun is getting out there and exploring, each of the pokestops you come across are going to be something interesting to check out. Most common stops are found at churches, city buildings like city halls, parks, museums, or other historical sites. If you know of any near you, get out there and take a look, chances are you'll find something, and if you don't, maybe one day Niantic will be prepared to allow us to submit requests for pokestops or gyms to be implemented again. Currently, they've disabled that due to an incredible backlog of requests from Ingress.
