I'm building an HTPC with this motherboard and video card. It has an HDMI out from the video card, and no optical out. What's the best way to get audio from the HTPC to my TV?

Also, down the road I want surround sound. What would be the best way to interface to the receiver?

Motherboard: MSI Computer Corp. DDR3 1600 Intel LGA 1155 Motherboards (H77MA-G43)

Perhaps elaborate more on your situation w.r.t current or incoming equipment you planning to get? Are u saying that u currently have a receiver with optical/coax for example? If u are starting from scratch i would just pass HDMI out of the HTPC and connect to a HDMI receiver? Also i'd really use the integrated graphics off Sandy/Ivy or Llano/Trinity rather than a HD 4350 tbh ^^

does your video card support sound out via hdmi? most newer cards should. some even support sound out via dvi.

for now you should be perfectly fine running hdmi from htpc->tv.

in the future when you get a receiver i would run hdmi from htpc->avr and then hdmi from avr->tv.
