Solved! How to get sound from Emerson tv to 5.1 sound system?

We have an Emerson flat screen tv model number LC.320EM2. We have a new sound system but can't get sound while playing the tv though the system however can get sound though the DVD player. Help

You are getting sound from DVD because they are housed in the same system. For sound from TV, you need additional connection (optical, RCA), or use HDMI ARC if supported by both the TV (I doubt) and sound system. Your TV has optical audio out, this is probably easiest way.
