How to get surround from USB media

Ok so we have a Samsung TV with no audio output other than hdmi. We also have an older Samsung bluray player and dish hopper. The Surround sound is an ancient receiver with no digital sound inputs. To solve the issue with the BluRay player and Hopper we have an HDMI Switch that has audio out. The problem come when we have a flash drive with USB media that plugs into the tv we cannot get surround from that connection (no USB option on Bluray player or hopper).

Does anyone have any ideas? Even a cheap hdmi box that does USB media files would be an option. Also open to getting a different switch if it will work.

HDMI switches don't come with media players but you could add a Western Digital TV , Android or Apple TV to play your USB drive.

You could help your post if you specify your specific equipment that you are using. There are likely options available if you narrow down the universe.... 🙂
