How to hook Sylvania DVD player to Samsung smart TV

I recently bought a Samsung smart TV, got my girls a Sylvania DVD player to go with it, husband hooked it up and it worked fine, fast forward and he leaves for work, my little girl knocked the DVD player off by accident and it broke the a/v things off inside of it. Got that taken care of and bought a new A/V cord, the DVD players light will turn on and you can hear the disk spinning as it should, but nothing shows up on the TV and the DVD player won't open. What's wrong with it?? Is it the TV or the player!!? Thanks!

I would suspect since the DVD player was what was broken, that it is still broken.

It didn't break the DVD player, just the av cord
