How to hook up a 5.1 surround sound to a desktop computer

I have seen people using a 3.5 to a rca splitter but using three of them to get 5.1 surround sound, but on my surround sound receiver I only have one set of red and white plug in's. So how would I go about plugging this into my computer to get the full 5.1 surround sound

What make model/model receiver do you have? It is hard to tell with out knowing what you have.

It's a samsung ht5500

You can't. That home theater set up only has one input and that is stereo only.
